As you know that AWN 0.3.1 or the latest version, in Ubuntu 8.04, you cannot curve the dock-bar by adding codes to it like the previous version in Ubuntu 7.10. No need to be disappointed, though. In fact, this time, it is easier to curve your AWN by just doing a little trick or you can call it Easter Egg, to make it curve just like before.To me, the 'Curve' dock-bar is way nicer than the 3D OSX like. OK, no more wasting your time, this is how I do it.
- Launch your Configuration Editor (Application > System Tools > Configuration Editor), if you do not find it, right-click at Ubuntu icon in Panel Bar, Edit Menus, System Tools, give check mark at Configuration Editor. There, you have it
- Go to apps>avant-window-navigator>bar
- Edit the following values: (click2x at the related names)
bar_angle = -1
bar_height = 45 (between 45 to 50, pick!)
bar_pos = 0.5 (or between 0.5 to 0.6, pick whatever fits your screen
corner_radius = 40
curves_symmetry = 0.2 ( or between 0.2 to 0.3, pick!)
curviness = 1
icon_offset = 5 (or 5 to 8)
Now your AWN curves! If for some reason, it does not curve like the one you see above, try changing the icon_offset values in the AWN Manager until you find the look you like. I'll leave the rest to you regarding your color preferences. If you share my flavor, tweaking the Glass Engine will always look better. Here are the hints: Gradient First step color ( pick whatever color you like), set the color Opacity in between 180 to 240. Second step color (pick the same color as first), set the color Opacity to minimal like 20. Highlight, pick the First and Second step color to whatever color you like, set the color Opacity to minimal for both of them. Remember, experiment is the key.
NOTE:
Most launcher icons do OK, however Stacks Applet, Stacks Trasher do not sit right on the curve-bar. So for Trash-can, replace it with Trash Applet and it sits fine on the curve
